History Center Museum Opens

From the arrival of the first trains in 1852, Whiting-Robertsdale has had a rich history. It will all be on display at the History Center of Whiting-Robertsdale starting on August 9, 2025.

The museum, located at 1606 119th Street in downtown Whiting, will be open every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM, and every Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. Admission is free.

On display will be a model train exhibit, showing what Whiting looked like in 1896. There will also be a display that takes you back to Phil Smidt’s, the most famous restaurant in Whiting-Robertsdale’s history. See stories about the world’s largest oil refinery; America’s leading songwriter for a time; a man who revolutionized football; the scientists who revolutionized the oil and auto industry; a man who built one of America’s first motorcycles; a Nobel Prize winner; and the women who made Whiting the candle center of America…just to name a few of the exhibits on display.

While at the museum you can also purchase Whiting souvenirs and merchandise that you can’t find anywhere else. Although admission to the museum is free, donations are greatly appreciated.
