Volunteer Opportunities

We rely on volunteers to support our work and successfully bring the history of our community to the public. There are many different volunteer opportunities for people of a variety of skill sets. Interested in helping? Please read through our roles to learn more and fill out our volunteer application.

Museum Docent Team

We are getting ready to welcome guests to our new History Center. We will be open on Wednesdays from 4 pm - 7 pm and Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm starting on Wednesdays, August 6.

Docents will be responsible for opening and closing procedures, welcoming guests, selling merchandise, and answering questions. 

All docents will receive training in July and August - training dates to be announced soon. 

Writer’s team

Love to write? Love local history? Join our talented team of writers to help us tell the story of Whiting-Robertsdale. We are happy to work with volunteers to help them develop ideas and access primary source material.

Collections Documentation

Interested in helping up add items to our collection? We are looking for volunteers to assist us in entering collection material into our Past Perfect program. Volunteer should be comfortable using a computer, we will provide training on how to use our Past Perfect program.

handyman team

Comfortable using a saw, hammer, wrench or other tools? We often need help with small projects around our building, including installing and deinstalling exhibits.

Fundraising Team

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we are rely on donations to help us fulfill our mission. We are looking for volunteers to help with fundraising projects, granting writing, and soliciting donations from the community.

Oral History Team

Interviewing community members to learn their stories is an important part of our work. Help us schedule interviews, conduct interviews on camera, shoot video, transcribe, or edit.

Field trip Team

We take field trips to unique and hidden areas of our community. Interested in helping set up these trip, giving tour at various sites or have fun idea about where we could visit?

collections team

We have thousands of items in our collection, including 3D objects and paper files. Help us safely pack them away and put them in storage so that they can be used for research and displays, as well as being stored for long term preservation.

Youth Outreach Team

History isn’t just about the past, its also about engaging the future. We are looking for high-school and college students to get involved in our projects. Are you someone interested in creating youth programming? Are you someone in high-school or college interested in getting involved and bringing more people on board?

Social media team

We are always looking to grow our social media and website audience. Want to help us grow? A great opportunity for someone who enjoys engaging online and is skilled at creating social media friendly stories, emails, etc.
