History Lovers February Meeting

Bob Baxter has an an illustrious career sailing the Great Lakes and Mississippi River on board the L.E. Block lake freighter that was based out of Indiana Harbor in East Chicago. Mostly notably, his ship was dispatched in an attempt to rescue the infamous Edmund Fitzgerald when it sank in 1975, taking all 29 of its crew members to the bottom of Lake Michigan.

Baxter, author of the recently published memoir Hey You!: A Merchant Marine Memoir, will be speaking at the our February meeting. Join us to here some of his stories and how his work on the L. E. Block impacted the history of the Region.
